Message from the Pastor
This Saturday, November 1 is the Solemnity of All Saints. It is a Holy Day but no obligation this year since in falls on a Saturday. Mass for All Saints Day will be on Saturday at Our Lady of the Lake at 8am only. Sunday, November 2 is the feast of All Souls will follow the usual weekend schedule at both St. Anne in the Mountains and Our Lady of the Lake.

All Saints Day originated in the fourth century in the Eastern Church as the feast of All Martyrs, and is attested to by St. Ephrem in 373. Pope Gregory IV established this commemoration for all the Roman Church in 835. Originally celebrated on Easter Friday, it came to be held in Rome on May 13th. Later in the ninth century it was transferred to November 1st, the date of its celebration in Ireland where it countered the Celtic pagan feast of the Druids.

All Souls Day is rooted in ancient Christian tradition of the second century. St. Odilo of Cluny established a memorial of all the faithful departed in 988. It was accepted in Rome in the 13th century.

You are invited to write the names of all your deceased loved ones on the All Souls envelopes. These will remain on the altar during the month of November. You are also invited to write the names of those loved ones and friends who have died in this past year in our book of the dead, that will be in the sanctuary during the month of November.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May their souls rest in peace?

A Christian Steward Returns God’s Gifts with Increase

“The choicest first fruits of your soil you shall bring to the house of the Lord, your God.” (Exodus 23:19)

While there is much to say about spontaneous acts of generosity, the Scriptures have more to say about planning to give.  Giving that is purposeful is giving that has been considered, deepened and enlarged through prayer.  Planning one’s giving is the first step in making stewardship a faith venture, not simply an impulse venture.

The late Archbishop Thomas Murphy once said, “All giving is:
  1. Planned
  2. Proportionate
  3. Prayerful, and
  4. Sacrificial.”

May God bless you exceedingly as you give of yourself in ministry through our parish.

A Steward’s Prayer

Lord, what do you want to do through me to accomplish your will for your parish?

REMEMBER OUR CHURCH
When you are away from the area traveling, on vacation or just visiting relatives, one thing to keep in mind is that our church is still receiving bills that need to be paid. We all have bills that cannot be ignored. Some of us cannot assist in physically maintaining the church and the grounds. Before we leave or after we return from our travels, let's remember that our obligation to our parish must be met.

Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers are always needed. We are also in great need of musicians and choir members. Remember; when you sing at Mass, it's a double prayer.
